This is my build of a Royal Navy Phantom F4K in 1/32 scale - a build that requires quite a lot of adaptation of the venerable Tamiya F4J kit.
In 1964 the Royal Navy replaced its Sea Vixens with a modified version of the Phantom F4J. The original General Electric engines were replaced with Rolls Royce Spey turbofans to allow operations from US carriers. The larger Spey engines required subtle but significant changes to the airframe - primarily larger intakes, a broader body and larger exhausts. They also...
This is another great kit from Tamiya - one of the best tanks they make and like a number of other this kit is motorised as well. The fit is exemplary, and the whole construction is superbly thought out amd goes together really well to build a great version of this more unusual subject.
The distinctive rhomboid shape of the British Tanks were designed to roll across trenches, and these MkIVs were brought in at the end of the war and were the first to fight against other...
This Tamiya kit is just exceptional. I've built it several times - it goes together brilliantly and doesn't really need any extra detail IMHO. The finished result is superb and as with all modern Tamiya kits the fit is perfect.
As mentioned this is a kit I have built for people several times, and it seems like every time I end up doing the Jolly Rogers scheme. It seems to be the most popular - and I have to say I can see why. The black tail and...
Excerpt textReally looking forward to this build – it’s a great story to tell of Flying Officer Arnold Hallas. He came from Burton and was sadly killed when he was flying Spitfire IX NH231 coded UF-A with 601 Sqn on the 30th April 1945.
His is believed to be the last Spitfire lost in the European Theatre, and I jumped at the chance to help the Spitfire & Hurricane Memorial Museum down at Manston in Kent with their display to show Arnold’s Spitfire as it was before his...
This is a lovely Tamiya kit of the popular Mustang in 1/48th scale. It’s one of a number of Mustangs that Tamiya do (like the Spitfire, the Mustang is heavily represented by all the manufacturers) – so you have plenty of choice if you want to make one.
The Kit
The Tamiya kit is really solid and well thought-out – but somehow they manage to put all that ‘solidness’ inside the model – so when you look at it from the outside it just looks beautifully to scale and...
