This is my build of a Royal Navy Phantom F4K in 1/32 scale - a build that requires quite a lot of adaptation of the venerable Tamiya F4J kit.
In 1964 the Royal Navy replaced its Sea Vixens with a modified version of the Phantom F4J. The original General Electric engines were replaced with Rolls Royce Spey turbofans to allow operations from US carriers. The larger Spey engines required subtle but significant changes to the airframe - primarily larger intakes, a broader body and larger exhausts. They also...
A beautiful kit of the flying wing produced by the Nazis at the end of WW2...
This is the wonderful 1/48 scale Sea Vixen kit from Airfix. The aeroplane featured was flown by the last person to fly a Sea Vixen who also flew them operationally. It's a great kit with very good detail, excellent fit and a good range of options for folded wings etc.
I always love an aircraft with a twin boom - and the Sea Vixen is one of the most interesting, iconic and beautiful. The original DH110 looked set for greatness with the RAF, but was tragically forever associated...
One of the all-time classic Thunderbirds episodes - Series 1 Episode 5 - 'Trapped in the Sky'. The new supersonic airliner 'Fireflash' has a bomb hidden in its landing gear so they can't land conventionally.
Thunderbird 2 is dispatched for the first time with a cargo of 4 elevator cars so the plane can touch down on them instead.
A magic episode that I remember fondly from my childhood (I was just under two years old when it was released in 1965). It had everything - Thunderbird 2 (my...
Around a metre long this impressive kit takes some building but truly does justice to a stunning concept plane that sadly never made it past 2 prototypes - one of which was tragically lost in a mid-air collision with a Starfighter.
The kit is definitely worth the effort, but the fit can only be described as atrocious, with raised panel lines and pretty muffled detail. It take a lot of sanding and filling but I've done several of these with the wheels down - so it was nice...
I built this aircraft with Hellenic Airforce markings - which is not a subject I have ever looked at before, but it's actually a really good scheme. The build is from the recent Revell 1/48 kit which is excellent and something of a surprise to me.
It builds really well and is very well thought out - lots of nice detail and really good fit on all the parts.
Highly recommended!...
This Tamiya kit is just exceptional. I've built it several times - it goes together brilliantly and doesn't really need any extra detail IMHO. The finished result is superb and as with all modern Tamiya kits the fit is perfect.
As mentioned this is a kit I have built for people several times, and it seems like every time I end up doing the Jolly Rogers scheme. It seems to be the most popular - and I have to say I can see why. The black tail and...
